Gwen Kosel grew up in central Minnesota and got her education at SCSU in St Cloud. She quickly adopted Dubuque as her Hometown in 1994 when she arrived here with her husband from the corporate world of Chicago. She entered real estate sales in 2002 after learning the ropes of real estate as a mortgage lender/processor with an upstart mortgage company. As a newly licensed Realtor she started her career at the small company Mid-Continent Realty. Later she moved to the gone but-not-forgotten Prudential Partners Realty and proudly joined Dubuque’s #1 Real Estate Company, RE/MAX Advantage, in 2008. Over the years she has won many Top Producers Awards and has become a familiar fixture in the Dubuque real estate market.
But awards and sales recognition are not what she is about. Gwen Kosel finds that the purchase and sale of real estate is a perfect combination of elements for her interests and talents as an architectural & history buff, amateur interior designer and neighborhood activist. She has worked with several local award winning restoration workers who have substantially renovated (and occasionally redesigned) dozens of buildings in Dubuque over the years, and can easily help sellers to see what work needs to be done to properly market their home. Just as easily, she can help buyers avoid potential problems or see hidden value. Still the teacher, she believes in educating her clients and guiding them along their own particular path to their real estate goals. Gwen is Happily married to Terry Kosel "Get Moving with Gwen" Marketing
Guru. They have two children Simon age 12 who goes to Washington Middle School and Audrey age 8 who attend Bryant Elementry. "In addition to
working on our business of “Get Moving with Gwen!”. We enjoy a healthy living lifestyle, staying on top of
technology changes, good food and wine, and our two devoted Pembroke Welsh
Corgis (Mr. George Wickham and his Lydia) and showing stewardship to our
community." Question from the Interview with the Dubuque TH 2008.
ARE YOU A NATIVE DUBUQUER/WHERE ELSE HAVE YOU LIVED:
I grew up in central Minnesota. I spent several years in both the
Minneapolis/St Paul area and Chicago before settling here in Dubuque 15
years ago to raise my family.
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO BUYERS AND SELLERS INTHIS MARKET?
When you are buying or selling property in today's market, it's
important to have confidence in your real estate professional. Choose
someone that is committed to your goals and will keep you educated about
the marketplace. I believe that when you are an informed buyer or
seller, you'll make the best decisions for the most important purchase
or sale in your lifetime. That's why my goal is to keep my clients
informed on trends in the marketplace using the latest statistics and
industry tools.
WHAT MADE YOU BECOME A REALTOR?
I have both a Sales/Marketing and lending background. Real Estate was a
natural call for me. I feel "educating the client" was my big draw to
the industry - not just on the loan process, but on the details that
make owning a home both valuable as well as rewarding.
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME REALTOR?
Absolutely. When I went into the business several years ago I thought
that "part-time" was a great idea. I quickly learned that there is no
such thing - in this business you are on call 24/7, and it can take as
much effort and commitment to sell one house a month as is it does to
sell four or five.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DUBUQUE ATTRACTION?
That's easy - the people. I love it here - everything from the river and
bluff tops to the vintage neighborhoods. But it's the people and their
sense of community that I enjoy the most. Dubuquers have a wonderful
commitment to the growth of our town that makes me proud to live here
and raise my family here.
WHAT MAKES YOU SUCCESSFUL?
My family is as committed to my clients as I am. My husband Terry is our
Marketing GURU and aids me in my marketing efforts for my clients, and
my children Simon (age 12) and Audrey (age 8) help me with flyers and
signs. "Get Moving with Gwen!" is truly a family business for us.
